Stereophile Recommended Class A Component 2021, 2022, and 2023 !!

Jason Victor Serinus

“Excellent colors and color contrasts” only begins to describe the only system at PAF that captured virtually of the same color contrasts between Les Siècles’ period-instrument winds that I hear on my exceedingly more expensive reference system.

I echo Kal’s conclusion that the D&D 8c demonstrates that active, DSP-empowered speakers are the future. And I also echo what I wrote in our original review: “Wow!”

Kalman Rubinson

“The Dutch & Dutch 8c’s might be the sweet spot in the new category of active speakers.”

I’ve been an audiophile for over 30 years. I’ve carefully crafted some great systems in my home and while my tastes have evolved, we all know great sound when we hear it.

Right out of the box the 8C’s sound spectacular and I knew I had something special. And with some tweaking it could only get better. Boy did it! After running through the REW software with their rep and creating custom filters for my listening room the 8C’s were simply magical. I’m still in awe of how superb they sound. No grain, no bloat, no distortion, just pure lovely liquid music filling every corner of my listening room.

If your system can’t produce a relatively flat frequency curve, you’re getting an editorialized version of the recording. With the 8C’s I’m getting the most pristine and accurate view into the original recording session. It’s impossible to overstate how significant this is. The bass is the most articulate and precise I’ve ever heard anywhere in any system, and well below 20hz. The midrange is lush and just a tad warm. Never analytical or dry. The highs have wonderful leading-edge transients and decay information without the glare that one might expect from digital/streaming sources.

I’m a sucker for detail retrieval but with a lot of modern gear they throw it in your face, and it comes off like a party trick. With the 8C’s there is an abundance of detail but it’s never fatiguing or more importantly distracting from the overall gestalt of the performance. The 8c’s are the most relaxing, enjoyable, and musical speakers I’ve ever owned. Whatever secret sauce they’re using to pair the amps, DAC’s, crossover network, and drivers into a cohesive whole, it’s quite the tasty dish. I’ve enjoyed playing with separates, but it can be expensive and time consuming finding the right synergy. D&D have taken all the hassle out of it, which is a welcome change to my constant audiophile guessing and incessant wondering what if… I know they’ve done all the hard work for me.

Like any great restaurant or holiday resort you expect to feel well taken care of. You expect them to anticipate your needs and deliver them in such a way that you forget all our worries. The D&D team has provided me with the best customer experience I’ve had in over 30 years. From the moment of purchase to the complete setup they made it easy and fun. Thank you D&D..

I have had my 8c’s for about 2 weeks now. These are by far the easiest speakers to setup in your room. They sound amazing. Very clear, detailed, neutral. With the included software and dsp you can resolve room issues and tweak the sound to your preference. They are very forgiving in placement with very wide and tall soundstage beyond the speakers. They disappear in the room.

For reference I have had Wilson Sabrina’s, B&W, Dynaudio and others. Right now I have the 8’cs, Genelec Ones 8341, and Sanders 10e electrostatic. The Sanders are amazing and I run them with Baach4mac and if you are willing to sit in one spot these are about as good as it gets. The Genelecs are in my TV media room and the 8c’s are now in our main room of the house providing sound for living room, kitchen and dinning room (all one big room about 1500 sq ft).

The 8c’s look amazing, require no external amps, dac’s, etc.. and sound great everywhere in the room. I can’t wait for Dutch and Dutch to release uBaach for the 8c’s. These speakers do pretty much everything right and just keep getting better with software updates.

In addition Bill and Gabriel at Dutch and Dutch US are knowledgeable and amazing to work with. Even helping me track down custom stands to match the speakers and our home decor and loaning me stands until mine were complete. If you haven’t heard them you need too. I believe its the best 15k you can spend in the audio world.
